Are You Up For The Challenge?

After being diagnosed with breast cancer at age 36, Chandra Deen now belongs to a community of breast cancer survivors who are looking for ways to promote breast health awareness and become activists in the fight against breast cancer. After participating in various pledge driven events, Chandra and her partner Jason founded the Seven Summits Challenge. Representative of the physical challenges Chandra faced in her battle against breast cancer, the Seven Summits Challenge is not only a personal challenge but is intended to garner support for the cause and motivate others to get involved. For Chandra “the Seven Summits are a symbol of the spirit, courage, endurance, and strength of all those who want to make a difference for this cause.”

All over the world there are walks and runs whereby friends, family and colleagues sponsor participants so much per mile. The Seven Summits Challenge is a unique opportunity for breast cancer survivors, friends, family, and Rethink supporters to join in the fight against breast cancer by collecting pledges in support of Rethink Breast Cancer while achieving a personal triumph.

In December 2002, Lori Livingstone climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro and raised $10,000 for Rethink along the way! This year, Jason honoured Chandra’s battle when he successfully reached the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro raising $1,600 for Rethink Breast Cancer. Next year, Chandra plans to make this journey and is encouraging other survivors, friends and family who are interested to get involved. Chandra feels, “[she] is not only climbing Kilimanjaro for herself, [she] will be climbing for all breast cancer survivors.”
