Press Release

The goal of a press release is to alert the media to your event and to inform them why they should cover the event. It is important to remember that the media is bombarded with requests from charitable events. That said, media outlets are also always looking for new stories to tell. If your event is truly "thinking differently" then the media will be more inclined to attend. Some things to remember about your press release:

  • Celebrities are always a media draw. Remember to include any celebrities (big or small names) that will be attending your event.
  • The press release may be used as a source for a print article. Include quotes from key people involved in the event. Rethink Breast Cancer's executive director, Mary-Jo DeCoteau can provide you with quotes on behalf of our organization.
  • Breast cancer is a serious issue. Although your event may a lot of fun, the press release should also point to how your event relates to the cause and where the funds will go.
  • Keep it short and simple. As the media is overwhelmed with requests they will appreciate you getting right to the point!
